The church on the hill has become one of the busiest places in Louisburg, where people are getting closer to God, where youth are free to have fun in a safe environment, and where people of all ages converge for numerous clubs and activities.

It’s Sunday morning, and as you walk from your car to the doors of the new building, the muffled sounds of music get louder. As you open the doors, a wave of music overtakes you. In front of you, more than 100 people are standing and singing with the worship band.

It’s Friday night, and the high school football game just ended. But instead of hanging out on the streets or in basements, middle school and high school kids have packed into the new gym. They’re listening to music, having snacks, playing games.

Any given evening, you can hear the excited cheers of families watching a youth basketball game or the voices of Cub Scouts learning a pledge. Any given afternoon, you can find a group of competitive senior gamers, a women’s lunch club, a choir competition or an afterschool tutoring program. Summer brings music festivals, theater camps for kids and a massive Vacation Bible School.

Louisburg United Methodist Church is thriving and has become a second home to many who otherwise might not have found it.

As Louisburg United Methodist Church prepares to celebrate its 150th year, its members have committed to a vision of growing the campus with space for community, fellowship and faith formation into the next century. LUMC’s Better Together Campaign calls for an addition that will provide two new classrooms and an enclosed regulation-sized basketball court. The plans include a multi-purpose stage, new restroom facilities in the buildings’ architectural link, expanded parking, and much needed storage.

While the addition is designed to accommodate the needs of LUMC’s growing congregation and ministries, the building is also intended as a bridge to the community. Spaces for sports, events and gatherings are limited in Louisburg. LUMC’s Better Together Campaign strategically addresses community needs alongside serious space constraints at the church. The significant usage and foot traffic from school and community events create opportunities for “welcome outreach” to many who do not have a church home.

Imagine the campus 10, 20 or even 50 years from now, bustling with mission groups, sports teams, choir and band concerts, and school or community-based events.

Imagine a “sticky” campus, where youth and adults want to gather and build relationships.

Imagine the growth trajectory for the Louisburg UMC congregation as it opens its arms to those who come through its campus.

Imagine all the ways we are Better Together, investing in a project that will transform the church and community of Louisburg.
